For the next two seasons our first, second and academy sides will proudly wear shirts bearing the “Starlight” logo.
This breaks with the tradition of promoting a local business or the like on the shirts. It now puts us in the same league as Barcelona (Unicef) Aston Villa (Acorns), if not in terms of the on the field activity, but certainly off it, by promoting a charity . When our teams take to the field on a Saturday or Sunday it is difficult to imagine what effect a life threatening disease would have on a individual, or their close friends or indeed family. This is especially true when one thinks of the junior sides, our younger football players, of which we have many. For more information please visit http://www.starlight.org.uk/ or call 020 7262 2881.
Starlight Children’s Foundation brightens the lives of seriously and terminally ill children by granting wishes and by providing entertainment in hospitals and hospices throughout the UK. All Starlight’s activities are aimed at distracting children from the pain, fear and isolation they can often feel as a result of their illness. Starlight provides entertainment in every hospital and hospice throughout the UK in the form of parties, pantomimes, Starlight Escapes, Starlight Fun Centres and Distraction Boxes. For many of the young children we look after, the day to day hospital routine of needles, tubes and drips can really take its toll. Everything that Starlight does is about having fun. “We are extremely grateful to Starlight for providing such a fun packed party in our hospital. The children loved every minute and it was obvious from their enthusiasm that it brightened up their day.” Janet, Play Specialist, North Tyneside Hospital. Every year Starlight brightens up the lives of over half a million sick children. Starlight does not receive funding from the government or the National Lottery and relies entirely on donations from people like you. You can help a sick child look to the future with excitement and anticipation. Whether you make a personal donation, run a marathon or hold an event, every penny will make a big difference. £12 gives a hospitalised child the chance to escape into a world of fun at a Starlight party. £25 pays for two children to laugh their way through a Starlight pantomime. £50 ensures that the brother or sister of a seriously ill child receives a special gift. £100 provides a nurse with a Starlight Distraction Box to help make medical procedures less distressing. £200 - £500 ensures that a seriously or terminally ill child meeting their favourite celebrity gets the full star treatment with limos, hotels and other treats. £2,500 enables a very ill child to experience the magic of swimming with dolphins.
Whatever the wish, Starlight always tries to go beyond each child’s wildest dreams.
