Leeds Combination League Division 1

27/04/08

Kippax Welfare Sunday 0 – 6 Leeds City Rovers

29/04/08

Pudsey 2005 0 – 4 Leeds City Rovers

The period between 11am Sunday the 27th April to 8pm Tuesday 29th April will be remembered as a remarkable three days for all involved with Leeds City Rovers. To put into perspective what just two football results have meant to the team I think it is best analysing the facts.

Firstly; Rovers scored 10 Goals without conceding one in the 2 games with only 3 days separating the matches which were both away from home. This means that Rovers have won 12 of their last 13 league matches. It also means that Rovers have scored 63 goals in 16 league games, averaging just fewer than 4 a game. They have in fact scored 92 goals in all competitions this season which exactly averages at 4 a game. This now means Rovers are now second in the league on 24 points with 2 games to play with another 4 points to play for. In first place, Pudsey 2005 are on 27 points with one game to play, whilst Chapeltown Brazil, who are in third, have 24 points with a far worse goal difference and have two games to play. Pudsey face Chapeltown in their final fixture with Chapeltown completing their season at home against Leeds City Rovers on the 11th of May. Rovers other game is against bottom of the table Kippax Welfare this Sunday.

Leeds Combination League Division 1

Leeds City Rovers 5 – 0 New Rover

Leeds City Rovers recorded their first victory since March the 2nd in a well earned 5 – 0 win at the War Memorial Ground against relegation threatened New Rover. Despite the gloom that has surrounded the squad since crashing out of both cups in recent weeks, this victory ensured the Adel sides’ 7th win in a row in the league and are now well in the hunt for promotion.

Pudsey 2005 1 – 0 Leeds City Rovers

Leeds City Rovers crashed out of the Luty Cup after a one-nil defeat against long time rivals Pudsey 2005. It was a deserved victory for Pudsey who played the better football on the day however they only narrowly achieved victory due to a debatable penalty in the second half.

Rovers again had a strong squad available and were able to name an unchanged starting eleven with Chris Pugh the only new addition, rejoining the squad to make up the five substitutes. Stewart impressed on the players that with the pace Rovers had in the team they were to look to take charge of the midfield by using the width of big Rothwell pitch to their advantage.

Another Sunday and another win for Leeds City Rovers, as they continued their remarkable recent form with a 4 – 0 victory at home to East Leeds Trinity. A lot has changed since Rovers slipped to their second straight defeat back in September with a 1 – 0 defeat in the reverse fixture and there have been contrasting fortunes for both sides since the encounter. After briefly topping the league in December East Leeds have dropped points in 2008 and went into their final league game of the season with only mid table mediocrity achievable. Rovers in contrast have their sights firmly set on promotion and good cup runs have given them every possibility of claiming at least one piece of silverware this term.

It was an extremely windy day at the memorial ground however it didn’t deter the punters in the highest crowd of the season. Both managers were pleased to see the game played on the more sheltered of the two pitches at Adel and the surface looked in good condition allowing the possibility of some good football being played. Stewart made two changes from the Morley game, Geoff Clarkson played at Right Back in place of Paul Marriott, and Tom Maxwell moved back into midfield to accommodate Dave Beaumont in attack with Howard Collier dropping to the bench.

24th February 2008

Morley Mercantile 2 – 4 Leeds City Rovers

Leeds City Rovers secured their best win of the season away at league leaders Morley Mercantile. In an entertaining game Rovers deservedly grabbed the points however were made to work hard for their win on a terrible pitch after falling behind twice in the first half.

There were two players missing from the team that beat Rothwell two weeks earlier with Dave Beaumont returning to University and Geoff Clarkson having family commitments. This gave opportunities to Tom Maxwell and Paul Marriott to secure regular position in the first team.

Both teams were pumped up for the big match and the pressure was clearly reflected when centre back Andrew Mitchell threw up before kick off. Unsurprisingly the game started quite tentatively, with both teams getting to grips the boggy and badly scared pitch.
